If you go looking for life you won’t find it; life has to find you.
When Jesus says he spent three days in the belly of the big fish, it is because he swam down to save us; we who were swallowed up, pitying ourselves, asleep to our actual state of ingestion by something, saying to ourselves meaningless things like, “I guess whatever this is…this is life,” and Jesus shows up and says, “Hey! Wake up! I’ve come to save you! See, I am too much for this fish. His belly expands with the light, heat, and breath of true life. We rise. Get ready. Take my hand! Back to the kingdom we go!”
